Mr. Santos has extensive experience with shipboard systems, Gantry Cranes, Bromma Spreader systems and the process of determining their root-cause for failure and/or lack of performance. Since the inception of his company in 1982 Mr. Santos has been involved in numerous Hull & Machinery investigations. His company conducts an average of 1000 surveys per year. A large percentage are Hull & Machinery surveys involving groundings, Main Engine Failures, Damaged Steering gear, Auxiliary Engine Failures, Turbo-Charger Failures, Contaminated Lube Oil Systems, Contaminated Fuel Oil, etc.

Inspection of dry cargo, bulk cargo, refrigerated cargo, vehicles, count and condition, HAZMAT loading and securing, pre-shipment surveys, vessel loading and outturn surveys – including heavy lift, high value and energy cargo.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE:
Mr. Shields has extensive experience with shipboard propulsion and power generation systems, auxiliary machinery, cranes, and refrigeration systems and the process of determining their root-cause for failure and/or lack of performance.
Since the opening of the Philadelphia, PA office of AMS in 1996 Mr. Shields has been involved in numerous Hull & Machinery investigations. His office conducts an average of 30 to 40 surveys per year.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE:
During his four (4) years attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Mr. Salkeld spent three (3) years of classroom study learning navigation, watch standing, as well as cargo handling, carriage and stowage skills. He also spent one (1) year sailing aboard U.S. flag merchant vessels in the capacity of deck cadet and able bodied seaman. His duties aboard these vessels were watch standing, navigation and general cargo handling and stowage.

SUMMARY OF EXPERIENCE:
Rick has been surveying yachts and small craft since 1993. During this time he has completed over 4,000 surveys and earned the designation of Accredited Marine Surveyor (AMS) with the Society of Marine Surveyors.
Assignments have included yacht condition and value surveys, yacht damage appraisals resulting from sinking, collisions, grounding, theft, accidental fire, arson, vandalism, manufacturer’s defects and maintenance failures. Rick has provided expert witness testimony in multiple cases, in IL and WI. Other assignments include inland and ocean marine cargo claims.
